Hard to say "Happy #MethodMonday" today because it's not happy at all. It's sad, it's angry, it's mournful. Words that say "keep the love alive through musical alchemy" feel incredibly hollow, but not saying them feels worse. So today I'll keep it brief: listen to Temptation by Joey Badass (4:00 - 4:20) and ingest its words and meaning.
Joey uses Zianna Oliphant's speech to Charlotte City Council after the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott in 2016. While segments are utilized to bookend the song, it's the segment at the end that brings me to tears every time. Leave it to the kids to boil it down to its pretty simple essence... The juxtaposition of joy and pain is so palpable in both the song and the video. "Do not stop her!" says a woman from the crowd. And I guess the only message I have with this one is: Don't stop. Don't ever stop. Not until we find the solution the people of this country deserve and have been denied for far too long. There's not much else to say. Stay safe. Stay vigilent.
